A Walk, A Finish and A Winner!!

It has been cool but sunny hear in Michigan.  Definitely frost on the Pumpkin weather.  Yesterday Terry and I went out to Metro Beach for a walk.

It is so peaceful walking by the canals.  The trees have lost almost all their leaves.

The geese were in flight.  I think they know something we don't know.  Bet they are glad they don't live on the East Coast right now.

I finished this!  It is the Monday Mystery project from Sherri Falls.  I really like it and plan on making a couple more.  She is planning on doing another mystery starting Monday.  You should join in.  The link to her blog, "Little Bits of This and That" is on my side bar.  I really love her patterns.

Now for what you have all been waiting for.....

Friday Night Sew-in and More

I don't know about you....but I have stacks of blocks that I received in swaps over the years.  While straightening up a corner of my sewing room (it is impossible to do the whole room) I came across a stack of Halloween blocks.  So I did some trimming, added some, and ended up making 6-12" blocks.

I am really liking it.  I used Pat Sloan's Alphabet Letters to make the Happy Halloween.  I printed it up at 75% so it would fit.  I added strips from Debbie Mumm Halloween fabric, made 3" 9 patches and some strips of black and orange fabric.  Today I plan on sewing the blocks together and machine quilting it.  I'm not going to add a border but just bind it with black binding.  Not bad for some blocks that have been hanging around here for a few years.

I haven't had a chance to show what I have been working on this week.  So here is a picture.

The table runner is 12"x24".  It was a breeze to make.  The spools are from the Fall Issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects.  They are addictive.  I want to a ton of them.  And last but not least...I got one more block done for the Jacobs Ladder Quilt A Long.

I wish I could get more time to sew.  But since Terry retired we have been on the run constantly.  I had to tell him I wasn't going anywhere yesterday so I do the FNSI.  lol

Can't wait to see what everyone else did.  Have a great day.

Friday Night Sew In - Quilt Show Part 2 - Giveaway Reminder

Tonight is Friday Night Sew-In.  I've got a couple of things in mind to work on.  What are you working on?  See you there.

Now for some quilt pictures....

These 4 quilts have the same blocks but totally different settings.

I once made a quilt for my Granddaughter Ashley with the above butterfly blocks.  The quilt maker said this was originally suppose to be 2 different quilts and her son suggested making one.

This quilt sang to me.  It reminded me of my time living in the Upper Peninsula.

Now don't forget about my giveaway.  I will be drawing the winner tomorrow and posting a picture of the final giveaway.   Leave a comment if you are a follower.  Leave a second comment if you blog about it.  Good luck to all.

Well it is a chilly day here in Michigan...but at least no rain at the moment.  We've had so much rain lately I was going to ask Terry to build us an ark.  Speaking of Terry, it has been about a week since he retired and we have been constantly on the go.  I told him I need a day to get some sewing done.  I got 3.   Woo Hoo....I get to play with my new machine.

So I'm getting ready to put a pot of "White Chili" on the stove, put some comfortable clothes on and head for the sewing room.  I wish you all a quilty day.

Wonderful Birthday Weekend Part I

I had a wonderful time this weekend.  Terry and I went to Kalamazoo for a Quilt Show.   Look at all these beautiful quilts.

Isn't this beautiful....below is a close up.

This quilt was made by Stephanie Peterson aka Mama Pea.  I was lucky enough to meet her.  However, we didn't get to spend much time together as she had to work that day.  A picture was taken of the 2 of us together....However, I didn't get one.  And believe it or not I had my camera in my hand.

I will post more pictures tomorrow.

Don't forget you still have time to enter this weeks giveaway.  Good luck.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I just love Maxine.  Truth be told she reminds me of my Mother-in-Law and I mean this in a good way.

It is hard to believe it's just been a week since my hubby retired.  We have been sooooo busy.  Taking care of getting all our finances together.  We've been walking a lot.  The weather has been so beautiful.  The perfect Autumn days.  It could stay like this forever.

Yesterday we took Hubby's parents to Frankenmuth for the day.  Mom wanted to go to Bronners to pick up some Christmas lights.  We had lunch, shopped and took a leisurely ride home through the country.  That ride took us past one of my favorite Quilt shops in Davison, Linda's Country Quilts.  I did a little damage to my credit card....

I have been wanting to get this magazine for a while.  Now I want to get a subscription.  I don't think there is a thing in either magazines that I don't like.  I want to make them all.  I also ordered a kit, pattern and hanger to make an adorable pumpkins in a wagon skinny wall quilt.  I'll show you when I get it.

I just made this sweet little quilt top today.  I got the pattern from Cheri at Quilts by Cheri.  She has a quilt of the month program.  I wrote down the directions last night and whipped it up this morning.  I did mine a little different than her.

Don't forget that tomorrow I will drawing the name of the winner.  Remember you need to be a follower and you need to give me your email address.  I have one entry who entered anonymously and I have no way of getting a hold of her.  If you received an email from me you are in the drawing.  Sunday I will post a picture of the giveaway for next week.

I want to thank everyone for their well wishes to me and my husband, Terry.  We are really excited about this new adventure of Retirement.

Hugs, Cathy

My Big News, Celebrating Autumn and A Giveaway

Ah...Autumn.  It's my favorite time of year.  It's my birthday month and (Here's my big News) it's the month my husband Terry retired.  Yep, as of October 1st he is retired.  It's early but we've hoped for this day for sooooo long.     He worked at the same company for 44 1/2 years.  We are so looking forward to spending time together.

Yesterday we went to Hudson Mills Metro Park.  It is over by Ann Arbor.  The weather couldn't have been better.  Sun shining, slight breeze and good company.  The park is along side of the Huron River.  Not a lot of color change yet but we still enjoyed ourselves.  We saw 3 deer but none of them were very friendly.  Every time I got my camera ready they would run off.

We just got back from Metro Beach Metro Park after taking our morning walk.  We are planning on doing this at least 4 times a week.  It was a rather chilly 59 degrees and over cast.  We even felt a few rain drops, but we enjoyed our walk.  We like walking along the boat docks.  I had to laugh at all the seagulls lined up on one boat well.

I have gotten a little sewing done.
Here are 2 of the Barbara Brackman blocks I finished.  Now I hope I have the time to do the latest before a new one is posted on Saturday.

I joined my good friend Freda at The Adventures of the Empress of the Universe for her Jacobs Ladder Quilt Along.    I'm doing mine in homespuns and neutrals.  It looks like it is going to be fun.

Now for the giveaway.....To celebrate my husbands retirement and my birthday month I am going to have a giveaway every week.

This weeks giveaway is a copy of .....
